"Largely due to the lapses in activity and the inability to overcome such obstacles I officially resigned from the Portland Surrealist Group on January 13, 2008. On January 14, 2008 MK Shibek and Morgan Miller dissolved the Portland Surrealist Group. Since I was not part of the group at the time any questions regarding the dissolving of the group should be directed to MK Shibek [poetrybeyond@yahoo.com]. Shibek and I plan to meet in the spring or summer to begin discussing and constructing a zine collecting the various documents we have collectively created throughout the Portland Surrealist Group's existence. Shibek is also planning on putting together a project called The Castle of Argol, which I believe is intended to promote collective creativity in the surrealist vein. I am personally hoping to finish a second issue of Black Giraffe by the end of 2008. This issue should contain more poetry and art, and less autobiographic entries. Surrealist greetings, Brandon Freels"

This is a slightly different note about the PSG, which also appears on the Unexpected Sound blog.

PORTLAND SURREALIST GROUP DISSOLVES

The Portland Surrealist Group, founded in August 2001, dissolved on January 14th, 2008. Due to various internal situations we were unable to maintain a level of collective activity that was consistent over time, and this led to Brandon Freels resigning on January 13th. After further discussion FN Brill and I decided to disband the group. Much of the material that has been published at the Flying Stone blog and elsewhere will be printed and made available later this year.

I want to thank those who came to our meetings or pursued projects or friendships with us during these years (although such a list could never be complete): Victoria, Kaylene, Trillium, Rain, Chris, Ron, Dave, Sarah Frances, Andrew Daly, Christopher Gray, Trevor Blake, Anthony Leskov, Dave Negation, the Portland IWW, the 411 Collective, the Portland Vadding Collective, Doug Lain, Karl Lind, Wolfi, Ron Sakolsky, James Koehnline, Laura Corsiglia, Eric Bragg, Dale Houstman, Parry Harnden, Kevin Sampsell, Barrett John Ericson, Johannes and Anna Bergmark, Thom Burns, Nova Dawn, Tim Iserman, various cafe dwellers, passers-by, and other groups and individuals who wrote letters, sent books or showed support from the international surrealist community, especially the groups in Chicago, Stockholm, Leeds, London, and Rio de la Plata. Thanks to Zazie for hosting our first website.

The members of our nucleus will carry on surrealist pursuits in their own way. I may sponsor some open meetings based on collective creation, reading circles, and experiments in the street, in hopes of sparking a new group activity . My participation in certain online forums as well as in sound experiments with QKCOFSE, will continue.
